Apa Ada Dengan Nama?

Reading this article reminds me of various names that I encountered which could put smile on anyone's face. I used to have a classmate whose full name is Raja Parsi bin Raja Rom (I never had a chance to ask his siblings names). My schoolmate name is Anak, her brother is Awang Selamat and her sister is Cahaya Mata. I remember paying toll at Bangi Toll Plaza and the guy who issued the receipt is Tun Razak. I used to have a student whose name explains everything about her parents and description on how and when she was born. Her name? Herlivivi Optrijuni (try to figure that one out). Of course, my great great grandfather's name is Merah (some people also called him Awang Kechik, I think). My friend has two daugthers. Their full name? Nur Zeykhan Aleexandrya Armeena binti Mohd Manzoorul Iqbal and Nur Zeykhazra Azzalyea Adameena binti Mohd Manzoorul Iqbal. Their name is a dedication to their great grandparents name which I think is very sweet and thoughtful.

A Request from a Friend

My friend e-mailed me today and asked me to put this on the blog. Nothing is edited here.

No Thanks

I know that sometimes you will receive lots of email from your friends/colleagues/relatives and you wish that they just stop flooding your mailbox. But how to tell them in a nice way as you can? You could write to them in a nice long letter(e-mail) and hoping that they get the message. Or you can also e-mail them this site address. There is no guarantee it will works, but at least you did give it a try.

I Work With Fools

This is another interesting site. Basically you can just write anything about your officemate or your boss. This is a place where you can vent your frustration or anger due to the incompetence or stupidness of your colleague. Or you can just read the postings, you might find they probably talking about you anyway.

I found a software from this site that can download pages from any website so that you can browse it even when you are offline. Useful when you don't want to incur huge internet connection fees.

Numa numa

I received this video back in 2005. At that time my 2 years old son loved it so much that he had me play it every day. I found this video on YouTube today and my son still loves it. And he still wanted me to play it over and over again. Good fun lasts forever.

I Love Pigeon.. Not!

You know that no one has a same personality. Everyone is different and this uniqueness is what make us human. So I can safely say that this applies to blog sites as well. You can find many kind of themes and their objectives not to mention their orientation. Of course some of them are quite peculiar, weird or hard to understand. I found this blog site which I think can be put under "The most idiosyncratic blog sites". Which can sometimes be entertaining, of course.

Words of Mouth

For those who are barely surviving with a meagre monthly allowance (me included), a mundane trip to supermarket could easily transforms into a nightmare. Imagine queueing to pay for your stuff when you suddenly realise that the money (in your pocket and in the bank) might be a little bit short in quantity. Then you decided to put back those ginger beer drinks and Snickers bar, essential stuff only please. And the store special offers announcement printed on those flimsy papers will always be your 'tourist guide' when shopping. Well, fear no more. You can now browse this site beforehand and decide in advance whether that ginger beer can qualify as an essential nutrient. Oh, sorry folks, this site only applies to UK stores only. I guess there could be same site like this that cater other countries and I could find them for you. But I really need to go and get that ginger beer!

and I Quote This...

Humor is mankind's greatest blessing.
Mark Twain

The Eskimo has fifty-two names for snow because it is important to them; there ought to be as many for love.
Margaret Atwood

Look, I don't want to wax philosophic, but I will say that if you're alive you've got to flap your arms and legs, you've got to jump around a lot, for life is the very opposite of death, and therefore you must at very least think noisy and colorfully, or you're not alive.
Mel Brooks

What a lovely site it is. Useful when you want to appear as someone who reads a lot. :)

Kicap Cap Kipas Udang

Found this site explaining on more than 1000 ways of opening a bottle. It's written in German, but there are plenty of pictures explaining the methods. Might be useful next time you want to open a 'kicap' bottle. But then we never opened them, we just stick a knife on the metal cap to create two small holes.

Friends of the Sea

I think sea is enchanting. It could be among the last frontiers to mankind. There are so many exotic creatures that have been found deep in the sea, and the are others waiting to be discovered. So I find this site is useful in makin tribute to all ocean life, marine biology and marine conservation. Read on the giant squid and great white shark. Intelectually stimulating. Or you can just look at all those beautiful marine life pictures.

Have We Met Before?

I think I will recommend this site to women only. For their own well being. What? Men need that too? Oh well, then. Open field to everyone.

Ninki-nanka

Excerpts from a BBC News site,

'A team of UK dragon-hunters is on an expedition in The Gambia to track down a mysterious creature known locally as the "Ninki-nanka"...It is described as having a horse-like face, a long body with mirror-like scales and a crest of skin on its head.'

Wow! This is interesting, but I wonder why they didn't pursue Nessie in Loch Ness, which is far nearer to them than this 'dragon' in Gambia. Perhaps, because the country is famous for its coastal beach resorts with a flight time of less than six hours, or the fact that it has plenty to offer; from the Kombo Beach which offers a range of sports and activities to the Makasuto Culture Forest that boasts a 1000 acre of gallery forest. Not forgetting the rich diversity of its bird life.

This make me want to hunt another mysterious creature, a giant bird named Lang, I think the last time it appears was at Langkawi Island. I could be wrong, but it's better to cover the rest of Malaysian islands like Redang, Sipadan, Perhentian etc. So is there any nature society/government/rich entrepreneurs willing to sponsor me? I promise I will take pictures of the bird, or at least some drawings made by the local children.

I Don't Believe You

In this age of Information Technology, you'd always received countless emails claiming on certain things that sound bizarre, weird, strange or downright silly. Well, this site might help you dispelling all those niggling concerns. Hmm.. maybe most of it.

Oopsie!

I know it's hard to maintain your composure whilst watching a highly charged game, but this is simply a giveaway....

Akhirnya.....

Strange to see that only CT and Datuk K are smiling. Why the gloom faces all around? Oh, I see, all young males, but wait, there are sad faces among the ladies too. Oh silly me, both CT and Datuk K used to be most eligible bachelors.

It only takes a year to get a doctoral degree, stupid!

I was reading Selebriti section in Harian Metro online site. Came across this article. A bit curious to know about this Irish International University. Turned out it is a consortium of companies and was set up in Ireland (cue the name). It doesn't have its own campus but made collaboration with various colleges all around the world. It recognises working experience when awarding credits to the courses taken, so it will only takes 9 to 15 months for a student to get a Euro MBA, or better still, a Professional PhilosophyDoctorate (DBA). I'm a bit confused here with the acronym, but this is what mentioned in one of the news article in the site. Kenapa, tak percaya? Click here.

It has lots of pictures, pictures with TDM, Tok Pa, Kayveas and various newspaper clippings. It even has a scholarship letter from Town & Regional Planning Department of Sabah announcing a full payment of USD7,300 for a Doctorate Degree (cheap or what?). Oh, don't forget a letter from the Prime Minister of UK, expressing regret for not attending their convocation. Same goes to High Commisioner for Malaysia to the UK and President of Pearson Education(?!). Just to reassure people that there are indeed VIPs attending their function, there is a letter of acceptance from The Society of Sales & Marketing.

And they just had their fourth consecutive international convocation in Malaysia. Why? It seems that majority of their international students are Malaysian. It already produced 1,000 graduants since 2002 and God knows how many of them are a Dr. At least I know two of them, one is in the article mentioned above and another is the CEO of UMW Holdings Berhad (again, it's from one of the newspaper clippings in the website).

And to think that I had to struggle for 4 years for the same old title......

Life Begins at 30

It's good to know that another predator apart from human experienced midlife crisis as well. And we are lucky with the fact that what we are supposed to suffer with is far less dramatic than these Tyrannosaurs.

Ready, Aim, Shoot!

This is an interesting explanation on why England football team kept losing out on penalities especially during the knock out stages of major competitions. Basically, they are not accurate enough when kicking from the spot! Oh really? What a surprise, then.

(Un) Happy Planet Index

Just found the website of Happy Planet Index. I think some hacker (or cracker as some of them would preferred themselves to be called, NUT cracker more likely!) has put "Un" before the word Happy.

Some interesting notes:

  • Vanuatu Island is the most happy nation
  • Malaysia (44th) is ranked just one rank above Palestine, of all the nations in the world
  • Even Switzerland is ranked 65th
  • Lebanon is ranked 83rd, above New Zealand who is ranked 94th
  • UK is ranked 108th
  • USA (150th) is ranked just above Ivory Coast and Rwanda, but below Burkina Faso and Lithuania
  • Zimbabwe ranked bottom of the ranking

There you go!

Chocolat

Finally, scientists have managed to create chocolate that won't melt. So what's the next step? Soft drink can that can refrigerate by itself? Chewing gum that no longer remain sticky once it is outside the mouth? I would prefer to have teh tarik that retains its bubble long after I finished the drink, or roti canai that remains crispy even after a lengthy conversation on the merit of having prolonged bubble on the teh tarik.

What's in the (plate) name...

I found it amusing that only big and expensive cars are afforded to this special 'titles'. Kancil no need to apply.

Please Read The Label

Any Malaysian samples? I would love to hear one.

Panas! Panas!

Found this among my wife's email messages (I'm helping her clear the unwanted e-mails...honest!).

What Are You Looking At?

Have you had an experience of meeting a person for the first time and simultaneously forming an impression on your mind just by looking at his/her face? And then discovered that what you are thinking about him/her is dead wrong? Well, despair no further. Practice makes perfect, my friend.

Malaysia's Most Valuable Sportsmen (and women)

How do you feel when the government spend RM20.4 mil. on each of you so that you can get fit and healthy? You can ask these 24 lucky archers and squash players. And that comes to a total of RM490million! What a waste..err I mean a way for them.

Live and Let Die

Received Guns N Roses - Greatest Hits CD from an EBay seller today. Listening to Sweet Child O' Mine while looking at this. Welcome to the jungle, those pictures might say, or rather an urban jungle. Please dont cry for them, they are probably on the way of knockin' on heaven's door already. You had to be patience with them, to them they are already in a paradise city. Ain't it fun for them. No sympathy for the devil (cigarette) though, since i dont' have you really held responsible for that. Sigh, I still remember like it was yesterdays, under the November rains, when we had childish arguments but not unlike civil war and to ever think that you could be mine....

Shiny Happy People

Even though our football team is ranked near the bottom of pit, we are still a happy nation. Happier than Singapore dare I say!

England going up in the world ranking

DESPITE crashing out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals after defeat by Portugal, England leapt five places up the latest Fifa world rankings. You can read it all here.

Malaysia is now ranked 146th in the world, below Antigua & Barbuda (145th), Bangladesh (143rd), Sri Lanka (138th), St. Kitts & Nevis (136th)...ohh it's too painful to continue. Full ranking at www.fifa.com.
