Meeting fellow hobby enthusiast

Mr Salim is my MBA student and currently the President of PBS Students Association. Recently I saw his Facebook post on his appearance on the local newspaper. He was talking about his hobby of collecting stamps. So I called him and we compared our collections. Turned out his Malaysian stamp collections is among the most completed one in the country! I was so impressed to see how much effort he spent on making sure the stamps beautifully arranged and preserved. When I visited him at his home, he presented me with a stamp catalogue book, an album which is imported from Germany and few first day covers which include the Panda stamps that were printed on fur like materials, the first of its kind in the world. I can only repay his kindness by gifting him some of my first day covers that he did not have in his collection.

Visiting friends in Lancaster

A day before my viva voce examination, Awa and I decided to pay a visit to our friends in Lancaster. Our first stop is Bong & Yana's house. Azrul and Nita joined us for the lunch and afterwards we went to the university campus to stop by at Rizal's house. He was busy packing and there were many Malaysians in his house including Tun and Saidatul. After that it's time to go back to Liverpool to prepare for my viva.

Special guest speaker for my classes - Nahdatul Shima

Today I invited my friend, Shima to give talk to both of my ethics and case study classes. She works as a manager at the Media Prima Bhd., the largest media conglomerate in Malaysia. Specifically she is an internal auditor under Corporate Governance and Risk Management department which is closely related to what I am currently teach to my students. Students were unnaturally enthusiastic during her lecture, asking her lots of questions regarding business ethics. Some of them even asked about the job opportunity at Media Prima since all of them are in the final semester of their study. Shima told me that within after one hour of her talk she has already receive three resumes from my students!

Bowling Tournament for ex students of SKS and SMKSS

Today is the 2nd Annual Bowling Tournament for the ex students of SKS and SMKSS but it will be my first time entering it. I even managed to persuade Jo to join in as well. I thought it might be easy to win the tournament so I sponsored a trophy to be awarded to an individual who drop the highest pins. We played in groups of four players (2 gentlemen and 2 ladies) and Jo and I were in Red team. My score for three frames are 122, 141 and 152 (a total of 415) and Jo managed to get scores of 108, 130 and 84 (a total of 322).

When the results were announced, our team managed to get third place out of four teams competing. Jo was ranked number four among the ladies for highest pins drop. I won the men category but the overall title (and the trophy) was not mine. Apparently one of the ladies managed to score a total of 431 pins drop. Ilyas was sad that I didn't managed to bring the trophy back home but I promised him next year it will be on top of our television shelf.

Saturday Visitors

Today we received a few visitors to our house. Jo decided to surprise Rafidah with a congratulatory cake for her success in getting a PhD. Most who came were our Lancastrian friends and I also took the opportunity to invite one of my office colleague to discuss about interior design.

More house visits during the weekend

After Hafiz's convocation, we visited Madun's house which is situated nearby and met few of our friends there. Then we went back to Bandar Baru Bangi to visit another old friend, Zainuda. My tummy is nearly full by the time we get home and I'd better think fast on ways to keep my BMI on a reasonable level.

World Cup visitor

This evening my friend, Amir dropped by to our house and we invited him for a dinner. At the same time Manchester United were playing Bolton so he joined me to watch the game. He gave me two souvenirs that he bought in South Africa during the World Cup, a vuvuzuela and a South African supporters shirt. Maisarah is very fond of the horn and keep blowing it non-stop. I'm still trying to figure out how to blow it.

Visiting friends

Today we started our day by visiting Wan Huzaini and his family at Kampung Tunku, PJ. Bakri and his family were already there and the kids are just happy to finally meet each other again and I think they are the one who are having the most fun. Afterwards we went back to Bandar Baru Bangi to visit Fazrul and his family. We met more Lancaster friends there like Azrul and his family, Jun and Aisyah.

Happy Birthday John Norafizan

I invited Norafizan to come to my house for Hari Raya. By evening he is still nowhere to be seen and I gave him a call to confirm his attendance. He nearly forgotten about the visit and quickly heading to my house. When he arrived we surprised him with a birthday cake because today is his birthday (I found about it in the Facebook). After the customary singing and cutting the cake, I asked him to autograph two of his novels that I bought. Now all four of his novels have been autographed by the author himself. Time to list them all on EBay, just kidding!

Visit from friends

Today we received a lot of visitors to our house to celebrate Hari Raya. Majority are my old friends as some have been friends with me for more than 22 years. Even my current students came to visit and they got a surprise in form of duit raya just like other children. It's good to keep in touch with them and I hope I will be able to see them again from time to time.
