Reunion Dinner for Ex-SMSS

 Pictures courtesy of Ahmad Shahzali

I received an invitation to break fast with my former schoolmates (from Sekolah Kebangsaan Serdang and Sekolah Menengah Sri Serdang) and really looking forward to it. This is because I haven't seen some of them for nearly 22 years. When we finally meet up again, I can remember some of the faces but not their names. And for some others I could only remember their names but the faces look a bit different. I really enjoyed breaking fast with them and we talked about the old times for hours. When it's time to go home, we made a promise to meet up again, maybe having a picnic together.

Breaking fast with the orphans

Today we are invited to attend a charity breaking fast event organised for Rumah Amal Peribadi Mulia, Prima Saujana Kajang at the Borak Coffee Shop, Prima Saujana. One of the organisers are the parents of Aisyah, Maisarah's schoolmate. While waiting for Maghrib, we were treated to Quran recital and religious talk by a prominent ustaz. After breaking our fast and performing Maghrib prayer, there were performances by the orphans in form of poem recital, nasyid and dance. TV3 personality, Azizah Ariffin hosted the event and towards the end they were holding a birthday celebration for a number of people including Aisyah. Maisarah is very happy because she got to play around with her schoolmate.

First Day of the Fasting Month

Although it is not obligatory for the children to fast during the month of Ramadhan, we encouraged Ilyas to experience how does it feel to be an unfortunate one, those who are struggling to get their food on the plate every day of their life. So we woke him up for the early breakfast and I was quite surprised when I found out that he is still fasting after his evening school ended. However, when there is half an hour left before the breaking of fast Ilyas started to feel restless and asking for a drink. I make him think about something else by playing a computer game with him. After that Jo took him to the bathroom so that he can have his shower. When he is fresh and nice smelling, it is time to break the fast. He easily downed four glasses of water and we had to slow him down so that he can have a proper meal. We are so proud of him because he is so determined to complete his fast. Later on he asked us whether he still had to fast on Saturday and Sunday. Well...

Inconsiderate Driver

We just came back from having a dinner in one of the restaurants in Seksyen 15, Bandar Baru Bangi when I noticed this white car parked behind ours. I couldn't get my car out of the parking area so I thought the owner might be nearby. Jo honked the horn few times but nobody came. One thought came into my mind though. I immediately called the telephone operator and asked for the Bandar Baru Bangi police station phone number. When I called them, I told the person in charge my situation and he promised to send his men over there.

After 10 minutes, one police car came with the flashing lights (minus the blazing siren of course!) and stopped near my car. Out came the three uniformed policemen and they helped me maneuvering my car out of the parking slot. Suddenly, one young man wearing nothing but his Bermuda short came down from the stairs of the shop house nearby and started to apologize profusely to the policemen. He said he just moved in to the area but I could not see why that is a valid reason to just park your car in the middle of the road when there are lots of empty spaces nearby (both parking slots next to my car are empty by the way). Whilst watching those policemens scolding that young man, I quietly drove away with a smile on my face.

Autographed Books

All these books share one thing in common. They all have been autographed by their respective authors. Out of the eleven books, eight are first edition prints. My own little treasures. Hopefully.

Ilyas the Lizard Hunter

A Scary Book Indeed!

Baby Shower Party for Tina

Today we held a surprise baby shower party for my sister, Tina. She is due to deliver her first baby next month and we thought of having this party before the month of Ramadhan begins. This time Jo wanted to serve something special, which is a Javanese dish called Nasi Ambeng and it was supplied by one of Jo's relatives. Whilst having dinner, some of us sat in front of the TV to watch Manchester United overwhelm Chelsea in the Charity Shield match.

Harris' 6th Birthday Party

I haven't seen my old schoolmate, Monek since we came back to Malaysia last year. So,when he invited us to his son's birthday party, I took the opportunity to meet him and also to view his new house at Kemuning Utama, Shah Alam. Lalan, my brother, provided consultation and contractors to do some interior design of the house. The house is quite spacious and it's surrounding is also very nice. Monek asked me when I'm going to pick up golf. Apparently, few of my batchmates have started to play the game together for quite some time now. I'm going to check the condition of my right knee with the doctor first. And my right elbow. And my left knee has also started to feel uncomfortable. What kind of sport can you play with your left hand only? Maybe I should pick up chess then.
