Hailam Kopitiam

For tonight's dinner we decided to try the latest addition to Bandar Baru Bangi eating places, Hailam Kopitiam at Seksyen 8. Looking at the menu, there are so many interesting and delicious looking food and drinks that would make one trip is simply not enough. So for tonight I decided to try their Nasi Sambal Udang Petai although I got my sight on another mouth watering meal. Their food are delicious and the price is reasonable. Worth visiting again.

Liga Alumni Division One fifth match - ANSARA Taiping 4 STAROBA 1

BAT squad did exactly what they have been doing for the past four league matches; scored an early goal and let in a goal late in the match. But this time, they managed to score three more goals in between and thus resulted in our first win of the season. Last season we didn't get any point for our first five matches and ended up with only six points, barely enough to survive the relegation battle. This time, we have collected six points with two matches remaining and things are looking bright for us to remain in the first division for another season. As long as we continue to score first in the match, we should be fine. The only thing left for us to do is to figure out how not to concede any goal late in the game.

Scorers: Ayie (penalty), Jose, Kerambit (2)

Taman Kajang Raya Football Tournament

This morning Ilyas participated in the football tournament organised by some of the people from the LBJB. Even though there were four teams competing in Under 12 category, Under 9 has only two teams registered for it. So the organiser decided to make it into an exhibition match with four quarters of 15 minutes playing time. Ilyas was in the LBJB team and their opponent hail from Kajang.

In the first quarter LBJB were 1-3 behind and things got worse by the end of the second quarter as LBJB were trailing 1-8. During this time Ilyas only played for a limited time as a defender. In the third quarter the coach decided to play Ilyas in the beginning and for the first time LBJB didn't concede any goal and the score was 2-8. The coach was probably impressed with Ilyas and he asked him to remain on the field for the last quarter. However, there was nothing he could do as both sides traded goals after another. In the end LBJB team were beaten 4-12.

It was a good practice for the LBJB team as they are actually preparing for the actual tournament to be held next week in Shah Alam. This could be the first away trip for Ilyas when playing in the football tournament. I'm not sure which one is more excited, him or me.

Liga Alumni Division One fourth match - ANSARA Taiping 1 VIOBA 1

What are the odds of scoring a goal early in the match and conceding one before the end of that match for three consecutive matches? If we take out the match against SMACH (the one where we scored another early goal before they replied back with four goals), this is what exactly happened to BAT squad. To add salt into the injury, this match started with VIOBA playing with only eight players because some of them just couldn't be bothered to come early. That means we managed to score only when they are not a full squad. By the time the rest of the team arrived, the only thing left to do is to wait for the inevitable equaliser goal. Because of this result, we remain second from the bottom, just above VIOBA. Three more matches to go and I hope this time we won't be so careless during the final minutes of the match.

FEMSA Futsal Tournament 2010

Faculty of Economics and Management Students Association (FEMSA) organised a futsal tournament among their students and they invited the faculty staff to participate as well. So we sent three teams and I was surprised  when I found out that the students only have one team to represent them. Apparently, they would rather running the tournament than participating in it.

I was in the lecturers team and our first match was against the Support Staff A. They are actually the favourite to win this tournament and everybody was surprised when we managed to score the first goal (shall I mention that I was the scorer?). They did eventually equalised the score and it remains until the final whistle is blown. Our second match was against the students team and we lost 1-5. We simply cannot match their speed and agility and rather glad that the score was not a double digit. We had our revenge when we beat Support Staff B with the score of 8-0 in our third and final match.

Overall, our team finished third in this mini league and team Suppport Staff A emerged champions after beating the students team 2-1 after an extra time. I really enjoyed this tournament and I hope the students will make it into an annual tournament, and perhaps I could play against some of my students.

Saturday Visitors

Today we received a few visitors to our house. Jo decided to surprise Rafidah with a congratulatory cake for her success in getting a PhD. Most who came were our Lancastrian friends and I also took the opportunity to invite one of my office colleague to discuss about interior design.

Training for the Tournament

I received an email several days ago inviting Ilyas to train with other LBJB players this Saturday morning to prepare for the juniors tournament next week. Ilyas is very excited because it has been a while since he played football with his Rhinos teammates. When we reached the field, Ilyas went straight to the field to kick around with his friends. When the coach came, he started the training and before it ends, let the kids to play a 10 minutes match. By the end of the session Ilyas is totally exhausted. I asked him whether he wanted to train next week and he replied positively.

Life as a Cokmar Bearer

 Inside the Pro Chancellor room
Private room for the Pro Chancellors

 7th session Cokmar bearer
 My view from the stage
Lunch after the event

Today is very interesting because I have been nominated by my dean to become the Cokmar bearer for the 7th session of the UPM 34th convocation. I came early and took the opportunity to familiarise myself with that 8kg 'stick'. When the occasion came, I just kept my face straight, look forward, walk slowly in between the pro-chancellors and the vice chancellor, try not to look excited and just follow the procedure. When it's time to sit down, I discovered that the hall has a WiFi network and I took the opportunity to update my Facebook status. When it's time for me to carry again the Cokmar, I had to really concentrate because this time I will be leading the rest of the group. For a few moment I felt like a superstar especially towards the end of the hall due to the constant bombardment of the cameras flashes, mostly by the proud parents. It's a nice experience I would say, and I hope some of my colleagues will get their moment too in the next convocation.
