Raya Visit at Duan's House

After visiting the National Zoo, we are supposed to receive a Raya visit from Duan and his family but due to a change in plan, he invited us to come to his house instead which is very near to the zoo. When we entered his house, we were really surprised to see how beautiful the house is. His wife, Sarah is definitely a very creative person and has infused English style into the decorations of the house. In addition she is also an expert in making a replica of cakes which at a first glance look real enough to be eaten!

Malaysia Day Trip to the National Zoo

To celebrate Malaysia Day we decided to visit the National Zoo. The kids are naturally very excited and can't wait to see all kind of animals kept in there. The weather is a bit hot even in the morning so after the animal show we decided to tour the zoo using the chartered train ride. This way we can cover the whole area quickly and under the shade as well. We don't have enough time to see all the animals but that is just an excuse to visit the zoo again in the future. Definitely worth visiting again.

Paddy Field in the City

Today after picking up Jo from her office, we decided to have a dinner at the OneUtama shopping complex. And then I saw it, a plot of paddy field right in the centre of the complex. I took Ilyas and Maisarah there so we can have a closer look and started to explain to them that this is where rice come from. They seemed intrigued and interested to know more about it. I myself don't have any childhood experience regarding paddy field so I cannot help them much. Maybe when we are in Kelantan I could take them to experience the real paddy field, the one without the air conditioning.

Our first Raya visitors

This evening for the first time we received visitors coming to our house to celebrate Hari Raya. The first one to arrive is Jun and she came with Laura, her former dorm mate back when she did her Masters in Lancaster University. At the moment Laura is teaching English at Krabi, Thailand and she is visiting Malaysia for only two days. Next came Tina and Enol followed by the famous Idlan and her little sister, Nadiah. We served them the famous Kajang satay and a variety of kuih raya. So that's it then, our house is officially open for the celebration.

Today we went to Ukay Perdana to visit Jo's grandmother and her immediate families for the Hari Raya gathering. There were lots of uncles and aunties gathered there so Ilyas and Maisarah are the happiest. When it's time to go home, their hands are full with duit raya envelopes given by the generous relatives. How much each of them have collected so far? The amount matches our car plate number.
