I received a call from RTM around 12.30pm asking me whether I am available for the inteview after 2pm. They wanted to hear my opinion on the latest statement by the Finance Minister on the re-calibration of 2016 budget due to the falling oil price. I said yes and by 3pm we concluded the interview session. If everything goes to plan, it should appear on 8pm news.
I am so happy today that my MSc student, Liou Wei Hau, whom I always addressed as Ivan, passed his viva voce. His journey is quite a long one, more than 4 years in fact. He was my student when I was still in UPM and now his journey is towards the end. He still need to do some corrections but he already went through the most crucial stage of his academic life. I wish him success in the future.
He is my second student to pass the viva voce examination. My first one was Nazratul Aina. She did a PhD in Accounting. Right now I'm waiting another PhD student of mine to submit his final draft. Another PhD student already submitted her final draft for me to review. Hopefully I will receive two more good news in few months time.
Today was very hectic. I had two academic meetings in the morning, followed by a programme briefing to our new MBA students. I think about 60 new students registered for the January trimester. And then in the afternoon I did a briefing to the new lecturers who are going to teach this trimester. There were 20 of them in attendance. Then I had a Skype conversation with people in the UK until 7pm. But overall I am happy that everything went smooth as planned.
I started to monitor my weight in July 2007. At that time my weight was 81.4kg. By August 2007 it went down to 79.8kg and remains like that until October 2007. In January 2009 my weight has ballooned to 84kg but I managed to reduce it to 83kg in February 2009. Since then I did not monitor my weight until February 2015 when my weight has become 86kg. Since then I started to reduce my sugar intake by start drinking plain water and reduce eating rice. I managed to reduce my weight to 80kg in September 2015 but to my frustration it started to climb again. Today my weight is 82kg, slightly heavier than I was in July 2007. So after 8 and a half years, it's back to square one.
Mr Salim is my MBA student and currently the President of PBS Students Association. Recently I saw his Facebook post on his appearance on the local newspaper. He was talking about his hobby of collecting stamps. So I called him and we compared our collections. Turned out his Malaysian stamp collections is among the most completed one in the country! I was so impressed to see how much effort he spent on making sure the stamps beautifully arranged and preserved. When I visited him at his home, he presented me with a stamp catalogue book, an album which is imported from Germany and few first day covers which include the Panda stamps that were printed on fur like materials, the first of its kind in the world. I can only repay his kindness by gifting him some of my first day covers that he did not have in his collection.
